What to Expect from Pediatric Eye Exams

At Raleigh Eye Center, kids eye exams are assessments of vision using age-appropriate testing objects. Our ophthalmologists examine alignment of eyes, eye muscle function, as well as internal and external health of the eyes. It’s often necessary to dilate your child’s eyes, which a 20-45 minute process in most cases  the drops do briefly sting, but children rebound within minutes. Our office includes a waiting area specifically designed to make children feel more comfortable while recovering. Dilation drops cause light sensitivity and blurred vision that usually lasts 3 to 6 hours, but some dilation may last up to 24 hours. We offer disposable sunglasses for your child to wear after the exam.
