Swarupa Kancherla, MD was born and raised in Chicago, IL. She completed her ophthalmology residency at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and her fellowship in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery at Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute.
In addition to comprehensive ophthalmology (cataracts, diabetic eye examinations, and glaucoma screening/medical management), her interests include corneal transplantation (DMEK, DSAEK, and PKP), keratoconus, premium intraocular lens technology (astigmatism-correcting toric and multifocal lenses), femtosecond-laser assisted cataract surgery, medical and surgical diseases of the ocular surface (dry eye, pterygia), refractive procedures (LASIK and PRK), and sutured intraocular lenses.
She has authored multiple publications in top peer-reviewed ophthalmology journals as well as presented at international meetings including American Academy of Ophthalmology, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine.
