Which Laser is Best for My LASIK Procedure?

When it comes to laser vision correction, not all lasers are created equal. LASIK outcomes can vary based upon the technology used in the treatment. In the Triangle, there are several different lasers used in the handful of facilities offering LASIK or PRK. At Raleigh Eye Center, we use the Allegretto Wave™ Excimer Laser. Here are the reasons we feel it is the best technology available:

The Allegretto Wave™ laser uses a state of the art tracking system to track and neutralize even the minutest amount of eye movement. This ensures that our patients receive the safest and most accurate treatment possible. Many patients are concerned with what will happen should they move their eye during the procedure. The answer is simple; the laser will pause until the patient’s eye is back in range.

The Allegretto Wave™ is the fastest vision correction laser presently available in the U.S. Speed matters when it comes to LASIK and PRK outcomes. A faster laser means less dehydration to the corneal bed. This helps with outcome predictability. A faster laser also means a reduction in procedure time.

Better Overall Vision

The Allegretto Wave™ laser allows us to treat patients that have myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. It provides “wavefront optimized” treatment as opposed to “wavefront guided.” This means that the laser was 100% built based upon wavefront principles and algorithms. “Wavefront guided” lasers were retrofitted to allow wavefront treatments. Wavefront optimization minimizes side effects such as glare and halos.

It is important to do your research before deciding on a LASIK provider. We are fortunate to be at a time when there are a variety of vision correction technology options available. It is important to get second and even third opinions before making a decision on which provider (and laser) to move forward with. Never select a provider based solely on price.
