Ten Reasons You Should Have LASIK Now

As a society we are fortunate to be able to choose what we want to do with our bodies. For those of us who need glasses or contact lenses to see clearly, this is an absolute blessing. People decide to have LASIK for a variety of reasons. Here are ten excellent reasons to not waste another minute in glasses or contact lenses.

  1. Visual Freedom – Many people decide to have LASIK because they want to make their lives easier. They want to wake up to a child in the middle of the night without having to fumble trying to locate their glasses. They want to simply wake up and be able to see the alarm clock on the bedside table.
  2. Career – Most of us need our vision to perform our jobs well. This is especially the case for those who have jobs such as police officers, pilots, military men and women and firefighters. Imagine losing your glasses or contact lenses during a combat situation or when entering a fire. Clear vision is crucial to performing these life saving jobs and so many more. LASIK can help people perform their job better and more safely.
  3. Active Lifestyle – A life hindered by blurry vision can be a disadvantage. If you wear glasses or contact lenses it can be hard to get involved in your favorite outdoor activities for fear of injury, damage or misplacement. Replacing lost or broken glasses or contacts can be expensive and time consuming.
  4. Swimming & Water Sports – Trying not to lose glasses and contact lenses while enjoying the water can be character building in its’ own right. The risk of serious, vision threatening infections while playing in the water makes it even more challenging for those who wear glasses or contact lenses.  The acanthamoeba is a single celled, microscopic, free-living ameba. It is found across the globe in both fresh and marine water, shower heads, hot tubs, swimming pools, drinking water, air and soil. This tiny creature can pose permanent damage to the eyes of its’ unwilling host.
  5. Cost Savings – Many people don’t realize this, but LASIK actually costs less than glasses and contact lenses over a lifetime. After calculating the cost of buying and maintaining contact lenses or glasses over the past few years you will come close to what LASIK costs. LASIK not only saves you money in the long run, it also saves you time because you don’t have to put in your “eyes” to see anymore!
  6. Sports – Sports can be difficult or impossible to play without clear vision and the risk of damaging the eye with broken glasses or scratching the cornea with contact lenses is high. Many people choose to have LASIK because they want to be able to enjoy sports without the hindrance of glasses or contact lenses.
  7. Allergies – North Carolina is a haven for allergens. People who wear contact lenses often suffer from allergies more than those who do not wear. This is because the contact lenses trap allergens and dirt, causing prolonged irritation to the eye. LASIK can help reduce the incidence and severity of allergies.
  8. Infections – If you have a history of recurrent eye infections, LASIK should be a serious consideration. Having an eye infection is an obvious inconvenience, not to mention the risk of permanent vision loss should it get bad enough.
  9. Contact Lens Abuse – Let’s face it, there are many of us out there who overuse or misuse their contact lenses. Some of the offenses include wearing contacts way past the “safe” date, sleeping in lenses, not cleaning lenses properly, the list goes on and on. Many of our patients choose to have LASIK because they do not want to jeopardize the health of their eyes any more.
  10. Travel Freedom – For those of us who enjoy traveling but do not like having to bring extra lenses, glasses or contact lens solutions with us, LASIK is truly freeing. This is especially true for those of us who enjoy traveling overseas.  After LASIK, you can enjoy traveling without the worry of contracting an eye infection overseas and without the extra bag.
