Saving money on LASIK is something most would like to do. December and January are very popular months for LASIK because of Flexible Spending Accounts. Flexible Spending Accounts, also known as FSA or Cafeteria Plans, are offered by approximately 90% of employers in the U.S. and offer employees a chance to save money on medical procedures including LASIK and PRK.
FSA accounts allow users to set aside money for medical related expenses such as LASIK, tax-free. The money set aside decreases the users taxable income thereby decreasing the amount of taxes paid. This ends up to be an excellent way to save money on LASIK. However, in January of 2013, the maximum amount of money that can be contributed to an FSA will be reduced to $2,500. This is half the current amount permitted. Employers will have the option to lower this amount even further, diminishing the amount of money that can be saved for medical expenses. This can make it hard to budget for big-ticket medical items such as LASIK, especially when keeping other potential health concerns in consideration as well.

In response to these changes, Raleigh Eye Center is offering a Flex Spending and Financing program for patients who choose to have LASIK in December of 2012 and January of 2013. By using their FSA to pay for all or part of their LASIK or PRK procedure, patients can enjoy the following additional savings.
Form of Payment
|Cash||10% off total price|
|Credit Card||7.5% off total price|
|Financing (0% for 12 mo)||5% off total price|
For those who are fortunate enough to be able to pay for their procedure completely with an FSA, a 10% discount will be applied to the total price.
Just because your FSA benefits are changing doesn’t mean you have to change your plans for LASIK, too. If you have been considering the procedure, now is the time! We understand that every budget is different. When you come in for a consultation, we can create a plan that works for you and your FSA. Here at Raleigh Eye Center, we anticipate what the future of FSA will bring, and we are excited that it could be bringing us to you!
